Don Prudhomme was focused on what would be a successful run at a second U.S. Nationals crown, and the duty of driving the Hot Wheels Plymouth 'Cuda fell on Jay Howell. Howell got ink over this weekend at Indy for setting the bleach box on fire, and doing an unintentional but by-then outlawed fire burnout. Buster wasn't too pleased... Howell cranked the car to the second round before being trailered by winner Don Schumacher.
